Oro
Bay
Luxury
Resort Hotel
****
|
|
The
most luxurious resort on Isle of Pines,
the Meridien harmonises with the
luxuriant tropical setting of a cove in Oro
Bay, on the east coast - ‘where the sun
rises, where the moon rises’.

29
bungalow-suites each have their own private
balcony, lounge, double bed with
mosquito net and a sumptuous bathroom.
In
separate wings, 10 luxury bedrooms
overlook the pool and beach from their own
private balcony and another 10 look
out to a peaceful garden. Each unit is
equipped with television, telephone, video,
ceiling fans and air-conditioning.

The
style of architecture, in well-cared for
gardens, creates the atmosphere of a haven,
quite apart from the rest of the island.
Several
recent innovations include a small
botanic garden that gives guests the
opportunity to discover plants and aromatic
herbs the chef uses in his dishes. Walk a
little further and you'll find a sheltered
path along which to observe birds of the
forest and, nearby, is an area especially for
demonstrations such as how to make a bougna
(the island's traditional festive meal cooked
in the ground).

|
|
|
|
Visitors
who are not staying at Le Meridien are
welcome to dine at the hotel, at mid-day or in
the evening, or they may spend the day there,

"Day-trip"
visitors can lunch at the hotel as well
as enjoy the activities available free to
in-house guests, such as paddle-boats, kayaks,
bikes, billiards, beach and table tennis and a
putting green.
Casual
visitors are asked to respect the
hotel's dress code.
|
|
|
Sumptuous
beauty and well-being treatments, using
exclusive products from Thailand, are
available at The Spa.
Choices for both men and women, as a couple or

KOUENEY
CAMPING (pron: kwe-nay)
|
Kouéney
Beach
Road
to Kuto Vao
|
|
A
camping spot dominating a long, hidden
beach. It's the fruit of hard work
by Jean-Louis and Hélène Josse who have
created a park-like setting for their
camping site situated 1km from Kanumera, 2
km from Kuto and 4 km from Vao. It's quiet
and tucked away, despite not being far
from the road between Kuto and Vao
village.
From
early morning until sunset, the atmosphere
near the water's edge is captivating. The
only drawback could be facing the
sometimes fresh, south-east wind.
Campers
are welcome with or without tent,
and have the choice of cooking their own
meals or having them provided by the Josse
family who cook over an open fire, using
local produce.
